Yes, that was a hashtag on twitter today.
As I was listening to a report on NPR, of all media, about the big MegaMillions jackpot currently in play, I started wondering what I would do if I had almost hundreds of millions. Or even a few million.
It wasn’t that hard to imagine. Af first, I thought I’d stay in my job. I probably would for a while, just to keep the normalcy going, but I would quit to focus on my writing AND to build a coffee house/bookstore/pet emporium. Maybe I’d find a nice building near the old Navy Yard – a once-abandoned little warehouse or shop that I could remodel for commercial purposes as that neighborhood reemerges as a new, vibrant waterfront on the Potomac. I could have a business I want in the neighborhood, and I’d hire the manager to run the place and make sure I had a nice, separate office up stairs in some loft-like space with a window overlooking the river. From there, I could write until I needed a break and human interaction – I could go downstairs to the bookstore, café or dog palace for that.
After that, I’d establish a foundation and make some serious, carefully selected donations to organizations where my money would make a difference for the future.
Sure, I’d travel a little more, and buy that beach house I’ve always wanted.
There you have it. May the odds be ever in my favor.
